An Art Collector’s View + September Events

Hello You! I'm excited to bring you in closer for a detailed look at two of my paintings. Many of you are not able to attend my local events so here is your insider's peek!

I'm sure you've experienced how a painting changes as you move toward it. From across the room the whole composition catches your eye and your interest. As you move closer, the surface begins to tell you a story through color shifts, drawn lines and texture. You sense the energy of the painting and enjoy looking at all the details and decisions that went into its creation.

I'm always sharing my paintings from that broad, 'across the room' view on social media and on my website. In this post, I want to bring you into the 'up close and personal' range with two different paintings. I’m sharing detail views of the colors, lines and textures and how they work together.

Up close, you get to see where a line skips, where one color meets and blends into another and where the textured surface catches the light. You get to see my hand in the work.

In this painting, 'Discover Your Depths' the details reveal areas where color sits in layers. Some sections feel open and airy, while others carry more weight. Thin lines move across the surface and create a sense of direction. The final painting shows all the beautiful marks.

The next painting I'm sharing, 'A Fresh Sense of the Day', sets its own pace. The color relationships feel different, and the line has a different kind of presence. In detail, you can see how the marks respond to one another.

Some lines are direct while others feel like they've been discovered while the painting was developing. Texture adds another layer as it changes the way light moves across the surface.

These detailed views also show scale in a more personal way. A large gesture may look simple in a full image, but up close it can contain many small moves. What may appear as a solid color actually reveals several colors underneath

My paintings don't stop at the front surface. The sides matter, especially when a piece is displayed without a frame as most of mine are. I like to show the side view so you can see if the painting wraps around or resolves at the side.

These side views shows the finished edge and the physical depth of the work.
