What's The Big Idea - New Art

Hello You!
How has this year been for you? Did you make any new year resolutions/plans/goals? I know I'd been thinking a lot at the end of last year about my creativity and painting and what direction I wanted to go or have it lead me. The downtime around the new year provided me the space and time I needed to be introspective (more than usual!) and the feeling is as strong as ever, that my art comes from inside me. It’s my expression, my colors, my marks and my ideas. I’m so excited about what’s been coming up in my paintings and equally excited to share it with you.
I traveled to San Francisco in January with my husband and we visited several museums and galleries to look at art. When there were videos of the artists creating their work and explaining their process, I was mesmerized. Not just the way they made their art (although that was pretty cool), but the way they lived it, the way their art was exactly who they were. That's hard to describe but I felt it! I loved how these artists created from their soul with seemingly no concern about whether or not anyone else would like it! I got so inspired and jazzed up because it answered the questions I'd had about finding a way to create art without an external audience. Creating art that felt good to me, that was me, that is me. I literally felt the shift in my mindset about what I want to put on the canvas.
There's always been a certain kind of internal energy to my paintings and leaning into that is exactly what I'd been looking for. Perhaps I've been on a journey to get some kind of permission slip! If so, I'd say it's been worth it. Here are a few of my newest pieces...
I still have the same style, the same marks and the same freedom but I feel it more clearly. My growth has been happening all along and now I feel like I'm creating with a greater sense of fulfillment.
I'll be at my Liberty Station art studio on Friday, March 6th until 7pm for First Friday Open Studios. Come by and say hi and take a look at this art and more! (2730 Historic Decatur Rd Studio 213 92106)
If you get a chance, go see the Dames On Grand show in the Expressions Gallery at Escondido Arts Partnership. My piece, 'Rising Still' is in the show as well as many other fantastic and inspiring pieces of art!
In gratitude,
Susie

Excellent work Susie. There must be a huge proton burst from the sun … I too feel different about how I feel when painting.
Not that I have to choose...but I love Minor Details...story of our lives for sure!!! I mean "Whats The Big Deal" about "Minor Details"? 😉 Beautiful work Susie!🧡
