Artistic Endeavors: Exciting updates, fresh paintings, and upcoming exhibitions!

Welcome to this month's art studio update. As you know, I've recently leased my own studio space in the Arts District of Liberty Station in San Diego. I'm in studio 213 in Barracks 16, just down the hall from F1VEart Studio & Gallery (where I still hold space and participate in all the group events).

New Artist Statement

In September, I was on a creative retreat in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Santa Fe, New Mexico and I wrote an updated version of my artist statement.

I am on a journey when I’m painting, much like a hike up a mountain or a trek across the desert. One step at a time, one mark at a time, I put together pieces of a creative puzzle. I’m an explorer, an adventurous trailblazer with a white canvas as my terrain, my pack filled with tools and materials. I’m an experimenter, evaluating my results. Playing with ideas of concealing and revealing. Remembering that not everything has to be defined. I’m a seeker, looking for the right color, mark or shape. I’m a pathfinder, lighting my own way, finding my painting one brushstroke at a time. You’re the final piece of my puzzle, viewing and interpreting the work to fit into your story. The layers of paint, paper and fabric interact and unfold before your eyes. Your senses catch hold of the meaning and you find yourself on your own journey. My next adventure awaits on my easel and I deeply trust my creative process to lead my next expedition into the unknown.

I love how this sounds and I'm inspired to get going on my adventure!

New Paintings Unveiled

For the past month, the changing seasons and new studio have sparked my creativity. The paintings that emerged during this time encourage me as I continue my journey inward. The first painting I'm sharing is "Unearth The Essence". Energetic movement is captured on the canvas as a series of repeating lines, evoking a sense of rhythm and depth. Earthy colors capture the harmony of nature as a dynamic yet grounded presence.

The second painting I'm sharing is "Discovering The Depths". What would I do without you, blue! This painting captures nature's mysteries with rich textures and deep, calming hues. Discover new interpretations with every glance and delve into the profound layers of human emotion and natural beauty.

Fresh Ideas Flowing

The monthly First Friday Open Studio at the Arts District in Liberty Station is evolving into a First Weekend experience at my studio! Whether you prefer the hustle and bustle of a Friday evening or the tranquility of a Saturday or Sunday visit, my studio (213) will be open all weekend. Art is not just about looking; it’s about connection and discovering meaning together. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage with me, explore my diverse offering of paintings and perhaps find a special addition for your home. Join me this month, December 6, 7 & 8.

Upcoming Exhibitions

I’m excited to announce that new exhibitions are on the way! I'm always looking ahead on my calendar for shows and events to participate in and I'll be letting you know about them here. I’m currently working on a project that merges 2D paintings with 3D ceramic pieces (both by me!). This is a collaborative project with another talented artist and is still in the beginning phase but has an intriguing pull on us both!
