A Time for Healing and Reflection

This past month has been creatively different for me. I’ve been away from my studio and big canvases. The sweeping gestures and hours on my feet that usually define my painting practice were replaced by a need for rest. I spent the month recovering from a medical procedure, and one of the things I needed most was to take it easy.

However, my creative spirit didn’t want to pause just because my body asked me to slow down. I longed to paint big, to use my large brushes, and to spend time in my studio. Instead, I found myself at home, surrounded by unfinished ideas. As I looked around at the piles of papers, jars of paint, and canvases leaning against the wall, my eyes fell on my art journals.

Rediscovering My Art Journals

Something stirred within me. These journals, with their blank pages and layered history, reminded me of times when I needed their safety. They allowed and accepted my creativity, ready to hold me exactly as I was. They didn’t ask for more than I could give. They didn’t demand speed or perfection. They simply received whatever I brought. So, I began.

At first, it was just a mark here, a bit of collage there. I started sketching and writing. I added a quick wash of paint. The rhythm was gentle and forgiving. Slowly, I could feel myself re-entering the flow. Page by page, the journals welcomed me back to my creative process and into my own healing. My return to art journaling feels like coming home. It’s my first love in art, and right now, it’s exactly what I need. It’s a place where creativity and healing can coexist, where every page is both a beginning and a continuation of my journey.

Finding Inspiration in the Process

Following Picasso's famous words, “Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working,” I simply started working and creating. I found myself re-inspired. In that space of quiet creativity, a new idea arrived.

My return to art journaling has not only renewed my spirit; it has also sparked a new idea that has evolved into a project I can’t wait to share with you. In just a couple of weeks, I’ll be introducing something very close to my heart, created from this season of healing and inspiration. I’m so excited to invite you along on this next chapter.

The Healing Power of Art

Art journaling has a unique ability to heal. It provides a safe space for self-expression. When life gets overwhelming, pouring thoughts onto paper can be incredibly cathartic. Each stroke of the brush or pencil can release pent-up emotions. This process allows for reflection and growth.

As I filled the pages of my journal, I discovered more about myself. I learned to embrace imperfections and celebrate small victories. The act of creating became a form of therapy. It reminded me that it’s okay to take things slow and that every step in the creative process is valuable.

Looking Forward

As I prepare to share my new project, I reflect on the journey that brought me here. The challenges I faced during my recovery were significant, but they also opened the door to new possibilities. I learned to appreciate the quiet moments and the beauty in simplicity.

I encourage you to explore your own creative outlets. Whether it’s painting, writing, or any other form of art, find what resonates with you. Allow yourself the freedom to create without judgment. Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination.

In gratitude,

Susie

So good to hear from you. I cherish the painting I bought from you regarding the roads we travel and the choices we make.

Life is a journey of love and staying centered (and so much more).

Stay well and take it easy.

We need you.

Carol
